The Story So Far...
My Dog Has No Nose formed in early 1986, in Loughborough, England, UK.
The band always consisted of a combination of diverse individuals,
from different cultural backgrounds and different musical backgrounds, with different
musical tastes. A mixture of students and non-students with no preconceptions about
what music they should or shouldn't be playing, the band's main aims were
to have fun and to create and play interesting music that
people could dance to, in a fusion of musical styles. From this melting pot of styles
and ethnic influences, the "low-tech ethnobop" style of My Dog Has No Nose music
evolved. Complementing the music, My Dog Has No Nose always had something more
serious to say in their lyrics, from human rights to the environment, from the rigours of
modern life to the current state of popular music, from the commerciality of Christmas to
the joys of drinking tea.
MDHNN's first live performance was at the Knighthorpe Lodge Festival in May 1986. Since then
they have performed hundreds of times both around the UK and abroad, have performed at
numerous festivals, and have toured Europe three times, as well as occasionally hosting their own
game show. MDHNN have been featured on BBC Radio 1 FM and on BBC Radio Five Live, and on local radio
countless times. They have had five official releases, two on CD and three on cassette tape, and there
have been various remixes done over the years, with possibly more planned for the future.
There have been fifteen official members of MDHNN since 1986, and there have been
several guest appearances with MDHNN by other artists. Band members have come from from a
variety of countries around the world, including England, Scotland, India, Nigeria, Ukraine,
Pakistan and Algeria.
MDHNN's final live performance came in 1997, and following the departure of Yomi, who emigrated to Germany,
the rest of the band felt unable to continue as before. They worked on remixes and new material into the next
year, but decided to officially call it a day in 1998. Individual band members have occasionally worked on
remixes since then. Both Yomi and Dem have played in other bands since then, and Rik's son has made a successful
career as a music artist known as LA Priest, and was previously in the band Late Of The Pier.
As for the future of MDHNN, anything is possible.
