The Poet Of Christmas Future

By Andy Sutton

It's Christmas twenty-thirty-four
We can't afford the heating
Simon Cowell, prime minister
Just gave his TV greeting

We can't play Slade, or Elton John
No Chris de Burgh, nor Bing
They all got cancelled by the throng
No classics left to sing

No gifts to buy in decked out shops
We order gifts online
You can’t use precious paper wrap
Or you may get a fine

But still we meet at grandma’s home
We eat, we hug, we joke
And uncle tells his raucous tales
When he’s had rum and coke

The kids are well excited too
‘Cause Santa’s on his way
And there’s “The Snowman” on TV
It’s great is Christmas Day
