The Label Checker
The Label Checker excludes one or two items from the trolley because of ethical, medical, and political considerations. They carry a magnifying glass with which they keenly inspect the ingredients and country of origin of every product, regardless of whether they have any interest in buying it. The manager knows them by name, and invariably sneaks out if the Label Checker is seen arriving, trying to avoid another argument. There is in fact only one product which passes through the net, and the Label Checker pays for the lentils with cash, because the high street banks are all engaged in various dubious practices.
